Understanding Demand Avoidance

Event

What is the event?

Free online workshop on Demand Avoidance delivered by Aspens.

Demand avoidant traits can be a trait for some children with autism. Due to the high levels that any demand made (even those that they put on themselves), managing daily activities, tasks and settings can be extremely difficult and stressful for the child and adults.

What makes it more difficult is that some of the usual strategies associated with autism may not work and cause further anxiety.

This session aims to help parents and carers by expanding their understanding of demand avoidance, the reasons behind the behaviour and providing relevant strategies for a child that has a demand avoidant profile.

The session will include:

• What is demand avoidance • Why some people may be demand avoidant • What may be difficult for a child who is demand avoidant • Helpful tips and strategies
