Laugh out Loud with Lost Voice Guy, Georigie Morrell, Matt Hoss and Luke Poulton!

Lost Voice Guy may not be able to talk, but he definitely has something to say and his comedy will leave you speechless. He won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2014 and won Britain's Got Talent in 2018. Lee has become a TV regular appearing on The One Show, Last Leg, This Morning and lots more.

Georgie Morrell is a regular on the UK stand up circuit. Know for her own brand of gossipy humour mixed with disabled banter has made her one of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming acts in comedy at the moment.

Luke Poulton is an autistic comedian with a huge YouTube presence and over 1million viewers on TikTok. He won Essex Comedian of the Year 2019.

Matt Hoss has been a stand up comedian since the age of 19, Matt now hosts several successful podcasts. He was the winner of the 2015 Eric Baker Award and a finalist of Edinburgh’s fringe new act competition in 2016.

Mencap Gig Buddies

Mencap Gig Buddies runs two sites, Bradford, Hull and East Riding.

Gig Buddies is a volunteer befriending scheme for adults aged 18 plus with learning disabilities, matching them with a volunteer who shares the same interests. Gig Buddies recognises that many people with learning disabilities don’t have many people in their lives who aren’t paid to be there, much support or who are based around a genuine shared interest. The aim of the project is therefore to support people to develop new social circles and informal support networks. The act of volunteering while you’re doing something you already enjoy also makes the act of volunteering easier, more sustainable and for both parties is based on having fun and making friends.

Gig Buddies was founded by Stay Up Late. Stay Up Late set up as a campaign organisation in 2006, born out of the Punk Metal band Heavy Load who had band members who had learning disabilities. They used to get crowds of people with LD to attend their gigs but noticed a lot of the audience left before 9.00, because that’s the hours that fit with support workers shifts. So, they set up a campaign around making hours more flexible, to enable PWLD to be out after 9pm; ‘Stay Up Late’. The campaign has had lots of success, and in 2013, they set up Gig Buddies and the project solution to this, matching people with shared interests, around music to go to gig’s together. Since then the project has evolved and matches people to be ‘buddied’ for a range of activities.
