What is the event?

This course was formally the Two Day Youth Mental Health First Aid course and has been adapted to be delivered virtually by Mental Health First Aid England. Please see below for the session details. Please read the following information carefully.

Eligibility

This course is being delivered through a partnership between West Sussex Mind, West Sussex County Council and West Sussex CCGs and is for people living and working with young people age 8-18 living in West Sussex. Please do not register for this event if you do not meet this criteria. Following your registration on Eventbrite you will be asked to self-register on the Mental Health First Aid England portal and provide a West Sussex postal address so that we can post you the course materials.

What is Youth MHFA?

Youth MHFA offers an internationally recognised course designed especially for those people that teach, work, live with or care for young people aged 8 to 18 years.

Participants learn how to provide information, tools and techniques to promote a young persons mental and emotional well-being and to support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress.

This course will be a blend of self-learning actives and live interactive sessions with the trainer and other course participants. The total learning time is approximately 15 hours.

What will I learn on a Youth MHFA course?

The aims of Youth MHFA training are to enable participants to:

  • Gain a more in-depth understanding of some of the common mental health issues affecting young people, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders and psychosis
  • Work more effectively with young people living with mental health issues
  • Identify stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
  • Support young people with a mental health issue and relate to their experience

    Live Sessions

    The Youth MHFA consists of four x 3 hour live sessions with a qualified course instructor as follows:

    Session 1: Tuesday 20th April - 09:30 - 12:30

    Session 2: Thursday 22nd April - 09:30 - 12:30

    Session 3: Tuesday 27th April - 13:30 - 16:30

    Session 4: Thursday 29th April - 13:30 - 16:30

    You will need to attend all four live sessions for the full duration to complete the course.

    Self-Learning activities

    Before each live session you will be required to complete some online learning. This can be completed in your own time but must be completed before each live session. These self learning activities will take between 1 and 2 hours to complete each.

    You must complete all online learning activities to complete the course.

    Self-Registration and Course Materials

    Once you have registered to attend this course via Eventbrite, you will be required to self-register on the Mental Health First Aid England portal. Once you have self-registered, you will receive a course workbook and a Youth Mental Health First Aid England manual by post. It is important that you self-register for the course on the Mental Health First Aid England training portal at least 2 weeks before the start of the course to ensure the materials can be posted to you in time. Details of how to self-register will be emailed to you by the training team.

    Registration Fee and Cancellations

    The registration fee for West Sussex (UK) residents is £30 due to funding received from West Sussex County Council and West Sussex CCGs.

    Attendance is free for West Sussex Schools employees. You will be asked to provide the name of your school/college during the registration process.

    Your registration fee for this course is refundable up to 30 days before the course date. After this time the fee is non-refundable.

    Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.
